The series presents the Nazi occupation from the perspective of three young Poles. Irka, Ewka, and Marysia are three ladies whose adulthood coincides with the outbreak of WWII. Each girl comes from a different milieu. Irka was raised by well-educated parents in a patriotic family, Ewka was brought up by some petty criminals and Marysia is a daughter of a wealthy Jewish industrialist from Łódź. Their paths cross together in occupied Warsaw. Young girls cannot stand that their beloved country is occupied, they do not want to sit idly and safely at home, instead they bravely take the fight against the Nazis.
